A Virtual Roundtable: Exploring Possibilities for an Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Museum Association

Over the past 2 years, there has been an emerging effort to start a national museum association for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. Building upon similar roundtable conversations at the CAM, WMA, and AAM conferences, this virtual roundtable will provide participants an opportunity to connect, share input, and learn more about this effort. Questions to consider during this program include: What is one strength/positive/highlight of your or your museum’s work in AANHPI communities? What are the greatest challenges for museum professionals who identify as AANHPI in these current times? What are the greatest challenges for museums as they serve AANHPI communities in these current times? How might an AANHPI association help you and/or your museum?

Edward Tepporn is the Executive Director of the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation (AIISF), the primary nonprofit partnering with Angel Island State Park to preserve the buildings and uplift the histories connected to the historic site. He has over 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. He previously worked at the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum for 16 years, including serving as Executive Vice President. Ed received a B.A. in Biology and Psychology from Washington University. In 2019, Ed was awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Award for Health Equity. He also was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Fellow. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Western Museums Association which represents museums across the West Coast.
